PANAJI: Private members’ bill can pave way for public interest legislations which concern citizens’ day-to-day issues, said professor Ravi Ranjan, a Rajya Sabha fellow (2022-2024) of Parliament of India and professor at Zakir Husain College of Delhi University.
He was speaking to students of the political science programme at Goa University.
Professor Ranjan told participants about the relevance of the ‘private member bill’ in strengthening the parliamentary and representative democracy system.
The talk was held by the D D Kosambi School of Social Sciences and Behavioural Studies at GU on ‘Probing the premises of private member bill in India: A pathway to public interest litigation’.
Programme director of political science programme Prakash Desai introduced professor Ranjan and dean of the School Ganesha Somayaji congratulated the speaker for illuminating the audience.
The speaker also addressed the queries raised by faculty and students.
The faculty members from the political science programme Alaknanda Shringare, Ravaji Gaunkar, Shraddha Naik along with the students from Goa University were present at the event.
