PM to launch School Transformation Project on Wednesday



AHMEDABAD:Prime Minister Narendra Modi will launch the Mission Schools of Excellence, a union government’s school transformation project on October 19 at Dadanagar Convention Center, Adalaj in Gandhinagar. About 20,000 teachers and school management committee members from schools across the state are likely to attend the function.
With the launch of the mission, school infrastructure projects amounting to about Rs.5,567 crores will start in the first phase of the project. The total approximate investment of the project is about Rs.10,000 crores, a government statement said.
The launch function will also be telecast live and approximately 1 crore students, teachers and local functionaries will participate in it.
This project aims at strengthening all government schools having more than 120 students and developing them into schools of excellence.
Under this project, 20,000 government schools, about 50 % of the total schools, have been selected for development. The government expects that students’ strength in these schools will increase from the current 59 lakh to 63 lakh under this project.
The selected schools will be equipped with hitech infrastructure. In next four to five years, these schools will be equipped with 50,000 classrooms, about 1.5 lakh smart classrooms, 20,000 computer labs and 5,000 STEM labs. The project will benefit around 1 crore students.
The project has got funding approval of $ 1 billion pr Rs.7,500 crores. The state government will also invest about Rs 2,500 crores over the next four to five years under this project, the statement said.
