Govt to hold Kannada Sahitya Sammelana at Haveri from Jan 6 to 8

BENGALURU: Putting an end to speculations, the state government on Wednesday decided to hold 86th Kannada Sahitya Sammelana in Haveri from January 6 to 8. After holding a high-level meeting with cabinet ministers and representatives of Kannada Sahitya Parishat, Kannada and Culture minister V Sunil Kumar announced fresh dates of the annual conference deliberating on Kannada language and Karnataka.
The state government had scheduled to hold the conference at Haveri in the month of September and the same could not be organised due to the flood scenario in several parts of the state. Speculations were doing rounds that the conference will be held in the month of November. However, the government has finally decided to hold the event in January.
“We finalised on the dates after getting an approval from the CM. We expect participation of over 10 lakh people from different parts of Karnataka and Kannadigas residing in other states. The government has decided to hold the conference in a grand manner,” explained Sunil Kumar after holding a meeting with labour minister and district-in-charge A Shivaram Hebbar and Chairperson of Kannada Sahitya Parishat Nadoja Mahesh Joshi.
The minister revealed that he would visit the conference location at Haveri on October 20 and discuss preparation activities with volunteers and district administration. Ahead of the conference, a Kannada Ratha will travel all over Karnataka for 45-days. “Accomodation facility will be provided to 30 to 40,000 delegates besides serving food to 2.50 lakh people on every day. A total of 86 achievers will be honoured at the event and more than 20 committees will be formed for coordination,” Sunil Kumar explained.
