Aspirants in a fix over SET exam criterion

Indore: Hundreds of aspirants are caught in a Catch-22 situation because of an eligibility criterion of qualifying State Entrance Test (SET) for applying to Assistant Professors posts.
Madhya Pradesh Public Service Commission on Friday, the last working day of the calendar year 2022, issued 44 advertisements for recruitment to 4098 posts.
This includes State Service Examination-2022 for 427 posts, 15 posts of State Forest Service Examination-2022, 36 posts for State Engineering services, and those 1669 posts of Assistant Professors for 36 subjects, 255 posts of librarian, 129 posts of librarian and 100 posts of assistant taxation officer.
The commission issued those 1669 posts of AP in 36 advertisements discretely and decided to hold the filling process separately starting from January to May.
The examination of SET is scheduled for April 9, 2023 after a gap of five years. The commission however decided SET as a qualifying condition for AP posts putting many aspirants in trouble.
The students demanded that the commission either reschedule the form filling process or give one time relaxation from SET eligibility criteria.
MPPSC OSD R Panchbhai told TOI, “The commission is ready to do the necessary changes based on demands from aspirants.”
“The issue has come before us. The aspirants shall write an application to commission to intervene in the matter. The commission will definitely do the required changes to allow maximum students in AP examination”, added Panchbhai.
The SET examination was conducted in 2018 , when over 3000 posts of AP for 38 subjects were advertised in December 2017.
The AP recruitment process however was marred with multiple controversies that the commission issued 4 selection lists so far with the last being released recently.
The process is under legal scrutiny because of multiple issues including roaster, merger of backlog and regular posts, women and PH reservation issues and others.
